The Lynchburg Area Musical Entertainment Association is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
As part of our mission, we seek to produce and present an unmatched variety of musical performances, including, without limitation, rock, country, jazz, bluegrass, folk, urban, alternative, and contemporary musical performances, as well as multi-media performances and dance events, which appeal to a broad cross-section of adults in the City of Lynchburg, Virginia, and the counties surrounding it.
We also plan and host celebrations of bygone eras, regional and international culture, and significant public events and publish and disseminate reviews and calendars which highlight local musical performances, entertainment opportunities, and cultural events.
We are not alone in our efforts! If you are in New York, consider supporting NY Pops UP, an expansive festival consisting of hundreds of pop-up performances intended to revitalize the spirit and emotional well-being of New York citizens through the energy of live performance. The festival will launch on Saturday, February 20 and run through Labor Day.
Unlike the snobbish fine arts organizations common in bygone days, Lynchburg Musical Entertainment Association strives for diversity, inclusiveness, and authenticity. The performing arts need not be pretentious!
We intend to better the condition of society, lessen the burden on government, lessen neighborhood tensions, and eliminate prejudice and discrimination. As part of our mission, we actively support the Virginia Human Rights Act which defines the word “age” to mean an individual who is at least 18 years of age and states that
It is an unlawful discriminatory practice for any person, including the owner, lessee, proprietor, manager, superintendent, agent, or employee of any place of public accommodation, to refuse, withhold from, or deny any individual, or to attempt to refuse, withhold from, or deny any individual, directly or indirectly, any of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, services, or privileges made available in any place of public accommodation, or to segregate or discriminate against any such person in the use thereof, or to publish, circulate, issue, display, post, or mail, either directly or indirectly, any communication, notice, or advertisement to the effect that any of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, privileges, or services of any such place shall be refused, withheld from, or denied to any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, or status as a veteran.
We also actively support the Virginia Ticket Resale Rights Act, which provides that
Lynchburg Live is our premier brand, bringing the very best performing arts to the City of Lynchburg, Campbell County, Bedford County, Amherst County, and Appomattox County within the Central Virginia Planning District as well as Nelson County, Rockbridge County, Prince Edward County, Buckingham County, Charlotte County, Halifax County, Pittsylvania County, Botetourt County and neighboring jurisdictions.
We coordinate with an ever-growing number of locally-owned small-business catering partners able to bring the best local foods to each musical event. Of course, when permitted, we also coordinate adult beverage services.
Who said fine arts can't rock?! Not us! We agree with rock musician Frank Zappa who once noted that “Music, in performance, is a type of sculpture. The air in the performance is sculpted into something.” Explore the genre with us through
our Lynchburg Rocks andBlue Ridge Rocks brands.
The Musician's Guild, also known as The Musicians' Network and The Virginia Musicians Organization, is our way of helping artists connect with one another and with the patrons who appreciate their artistic works. Implemented as a free-form database in which each musician, band/ensemble, instrument, and event is interlinked, the Musician's Guild allows browsers to stroll through the universe of local music beginning at any point. For example, a browser might start with a particular event and then explore the linked instruments used during the event, perhaps thereafter following a link from an instrument to one or more artists skilled in the use of that instrument.
Lynchburg Live Poker is a twice-weekly charitable gaming event bringing members of the community together to enjoy Texas Hold'em Tournament play while offering aspiring videographers, live-streaming technicians, and entrepreneurs an opportunity to improve their skills. The poker tournaments serve as a living laboratory for testing a variety of production techniques and software applications. While adolescents between the ages of 15 and 18 cannot in any way participate in the game play, people in this age group may assist with production technology: families are welcome!
Regulations promulgated in response to the CoViD-19 pandemic severely limit the quantity and nature of concerts and events which we can offer. By Autumn 2021, however, we hope to resume our schedule of concerts and performing arts events.
We are a fully-accredited, 501( c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization and, like similar public charities, we rely upon generous contributions from patrons like you. Please consider making a gift of $5, $10, or more via our secure donation form.
Lynchburg Area Musical Entertainment Association is duly registered with the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as required by law and, as of 25-Jan-2021, is the only charitable performing arts organization in the Lynchburg area which is so registered. Registration does not imply endorsement of a public solicitation for contributions.
